Stride Education X Melbourne Victory FC
In 2023 a collaboration project was established between Westgarth PS, Stride Education and Melbourne Victory FC. This partnership has since continued, with our Year 5 students engaging in a series of sessions with both organisations, focussing on developing positive social, emotional and physical wellbeing. Stride Education workshops focus on several themes aimed at supporting students’ wellbeing, such as tuning into and managing self-talk, making responsible choices and developing the understanding that our actions affect others around us. Melbourne Victory FC coaches reiterate the teaching and language from these sessions and provide context for the idea of using failure to add value to a journey of success, become aware of the importance of building resilience and developing emotional literacy. Students also get to sharpen their soccer skills in the process!

URSTRONG
Research shows that relationships are the heart of wellbeing and learning. When we get friendships right in schools, children flourish! Over the past couple of years Westgarth PS has connected with URSTRONG, with Year 3 students engaging in a ‘day of friendship’ through a Heart of Friendship workshop.
Through role-play, students explore ‘Friendship Facts’. Using the Friend-o-Meter, they reflect on healthy (Green-Zone) and unhealthy (Red-Zone) friendships. They learn how to recognise the difference between Friendship Fires and Mean-on-Purpose moments and unpack strategies in managing each.

eSafety with Victoria Police
Victoria Police have connected with our school and provided students with presentations focussing on eSmart behaviours and our digital footprints. During the sessions, students are given opportunity to develop awareness of the dangers of the everchanging digital world and provided with tips in keeping themselves, friends and families safe online.
